Paying For Stale Food

Last Friday hubby asked me to pick up some food for him for dinner. We were crazy busy last week, plus I was out of town for work, so we didn’t have a chance to cook for the whole week.

I stopped at one of our favorite restaurants to pick him up some rice and peas and oxtail. I paid $15.20 for a large dinner, which I thought was a total waste of money, but we both got home late and neither one of us felt like cooking.

On my way driving from the restaurant back home, I noticed that the food smelled bad, but by the time I noticed I was almost home, so I brought the food in and asked hubby if the food smelled. He took a woof and said yuk we’re bringing this back. We ended up driving back to the store to get our money back. We told the cashier that the food was stale and asked her to smell it. She said she doesn’t know what stale food smells like. Really!? I opened it for her, then she admitted that it smelled.

She returned our money without an apology. We were so turned off, especially me because this is a restaurant that I’ve been going to since I was a child. The restaurant is now franchised, but the original owner use to live in the city I grew up in, so it always felt nice to support him as a business owner.

We do not plan to eat there ever again, which may be a bit extreme, but I just can’t see myself eating from them again. I am always going to think back to the time they gave me stale food. I am sorry but that could have made hubby sick and on top of that we paid for stale food.

It makes me wonder how many other times I probably bought food that was stale and I never knew.

What about you, have you ever bought stale food?

I bought raspberries yesterday at Kroger and when I brought them home they had mold on them! I didn't want to make the trip back to the store for $2 but I will definitely look closer next time!

  2. I don't think I've ever bought something that already had gone bad, but I have bought food that has gone bad a day or two later. It's so annoying to buy produce at full price and then it's all gross within a few days. At one of the big grocery store chains here I came across tons of strawberries that had mold growing all over them. The produce employee didn't seem all that bothered when I told her about it. Gross
